.
  Simple.
  New Year’s resolutions tend to fail, we all know that. There’s nothing magical about putting a new year on dated material, like checks and stuff, or a diet, or a quit-smoking program, or a business venture, or, or, or… The year-date is only important on checks and documents – when it comes to any of the other things, the date really doesn’t matter. You can start a diet on any given Thursday – if you’re looking for a magical date or event to get started on something, you’re really only looking to procrastinate. Take it from me, I’m a professional procrastinator!

   “Make It Happen!” is too generic to qualify as a “Resolution”, and that is on purpose. “It” applies to all things that need doing, need to get done, should get done, would be nice to get done, whether “It” involves obligations like bills or simply minor improvements to the immediate environment and/or well-being. This could get rather complex but keeping “Make It Happen” as a “Motto”, a constant reminder, will get a lot of seemingly insignificant things done, getting them “off the books” so-to-speak, and thereby freeing up the brain for more constructive projects. It is amazing how much more one can accomplish when minor nagging issues get thwarted by having been resolved.

   So, with my “new” motto in hand, I’m heading out into uncharted territory, embracing and reinforcing the battle cry from my blog category “FORWARD” on The Stupid Appraiser AND making a serious investment in the gist of my other blog, La Vita Nuova (The New Life).

   “Make It Happen” is far less intimidating than a “Resolution”, I think it therefore paves the way for a higher success rate in whatever the undertakings may be. It becomes an underlying mantra, of sorts, and carries through all the layers, not excluding or obstructing anything in its way. On the contrary. I think it lends encouragement where otherwise defeat may have been looming as the ultimate outcome.

Any thoughts on the matter?

.
  I must be having FUN – tempus fugit…

<object width="300" height="225 >

   Robert went to Paso Robles with son Tony on Oct 15 and had the most wonderful time, meeting a lot of long-time on-line friends & collaborators in person for the first time. All with one HUGE interest in common: WWI aviation. The Sopwith Camel was brilliantly flown by Mr. Arango, who showed her off up-close in some of the passes (!) and demonstrated the classic blipping of the Gnome engine extensively, to everyone’s delight and appreciation. The other huge draw was the starting and running of the Mercedes engine in the Fokker D.VII – quite a rare treat for the afficionados.

   The excursion to Paso Robles marked a significant step in Robert’s recovery from somehow having thrown his back out. Generally, that’s what we call it – it wasn’t your classic wrong move that you remember for maybe a week – this put pressure on nerves (probably sciatica), as well, and writhing agony with sleepless nights were endured for several weeks. He was just getting well enough to be mobile, again, but still kept the cane close-by. Amazingly, he fared very well – personally, I think the experience was such a great picker-upper that it actually did do him physical good, too.

   Then it was time, again, for my computer to give up the ghost. This time for real – the HD is a goner… I do do some back-ups, and the last one was done about a month before the event – so not much was lost. Dear son had a bigger, better processor and associated RAM on hand, not in use, which he offered up, and he ordered a new MB and HD on-line. Bless his heart – I asked him to put it together for me, which he did without grumbles. I just couldn’t stand the thought of going through that another time. For one thing, my fingers are getting fumbly with advancing age, and my eyes may have seen the glory of the coming, but they don’t see this stuff all that well, anymore.

Wise Men (and women!)?

Finally got the specs and an asking price for the Caudron C-460 Racer painting from Robert – YAY! It’s a smallish painting, but boy is it a good one. Go check it out, and look at the way Robert captured the fabric on the pylon. I love this painting – but, alas, I still hope somebody out there will make us a reasonable offer on it and give it a new home. Fire away!
  Thursday evening we had the pleasure of attending the opening of Terry Anderson’s One Man Exhibit at the Golden West College Gallery. Robert and Terry have known each other on-line and by telephone for some time, now, but this was the first time we all got to meet in person. What better setting for two artists to meet?

   Terry’s exhibited work shows very interesting & intricate shapes generated by taking computer photographs of 3-D generated abstract objects, then carefully adding color for some truly vivid and eye-catching pieces.

   A good showing of guests in attendance, and some interesting conversations, as well as a slide-show augmenting Terry’s exhibit made this a great experience!

   Thank you for the invitation, Terry – and it was so good to finally meet you, too!
