A development of the earlier BE2, the BE2c was used for
everything from observation, light bombing, training to
primitive night fighter. Too slow and stable to be much
good as a day fighter, it excelled in the dark as a single
seater Zeppelin hunter, being responsible for bringing down
more than one of the giant German airships. The painting
shows Lt. Frederick Sowrey of the Royal Flying Corps stalking
a Zeppelin in September, 1916, near London. I had read first-
hand accounts of the bright cherry-red glow of the engines as
seen in the dark and the painting grew from that idea.
All our giclée prints are printed with high-quality fade-resistant inks on archival paper. Each print is individually signed by Robert and an identifying certificate is included.
