Matty Laird’s Super Solution gained fame in September 1931 when Jimmy Doolittle flew it to victory in the very first Bendix cross-country race from Burbank, California to Cleveland, Ohio. He had the Super Solution gassed up in Cleveland and continued on to New Jersey, thereby setting a new transcontinental record!
